To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. —Ecclesiastes 3:1
The writer of Ecclesiastes tells us that life is composed of a number of seasons, times for doing certain things before moving on to others .Just as there are different seasons in the year, there are also different seasons to a man’ life. It is so important to understand these seasons. If you don’t understand the season of life you might be in, you might not respond correctly in it and you will not get the best out that God intended of it all.
Above all, just as there are four seasons in life; winter, spring, summer and fall, you need to prepare to meet the challenges they will bring along, they come along with their opportunities and challenges as stated below:
Winter- We deal with it by changing our clothing or changing our way of life. Rough times will come. No life goes smoothly without a problem from beginning to end. These winter times provide us with important learning and understanding. It is through the challenges and difficulties in life that we learn our most valuable lessons.
Spring- This is a time where opportunities arise. It is a time where we create new beginnings for ourselves and our lives. Flowers blossom and creatures come out of their hibernation. This is your moment to plant the seeds of greatness to come. Make your springs the springboard to getting where you want to go.
Summer -This is a time where you can reap the benefits of your crops. . Once you have achieved something in your life, you must defend it. You must stand up for it, and protect its value. Otherwise you may find yourself losing it.
Fall -As the autumn comes, the trees change color, lose their leaves, and the weather gets cooler. This is the best time to take full responsibility and learn from previous successes and /or mistakes. We may for example need to let go of: the past; negative thoughts; negative emotions; limiting beliefs; and lack of forgiveness. Failure to let go causes us to remain stuck in our lives and hinders positive change. Only by doing so can you be ready once more to handle another winter that is coming and plan for the following spring & summer.
We will experience all of these seasons during certain stages of our life. So , if you are going through a period of winter at the moment don’t worry or stress. Spring, summer, and autumn are just around the corner.
Let’s relate these seasons to our social and biological clocks:
The season of learning.
We enter this world programmed to begin exploring and learning about our surroundings. This is primarily a season of learning, accumulating knowledge and skills. A season to make choices on what we want to be when we “grow up”. Accumulate knowledge that will shapen your life for good, whatsoever thy hand finds to do, do it with all thy might.
The season of earning.
It is in this season that we begin to build a life. We may start a family, buy a home, and begin to accumulate both possessions and wealth. In this season the focus is usually on us. This season tends to be a fast-paced one where considerable energy is focused on continuing to move onward and upward. It is a very challenging one as we can make many mistakes if not well guided. But remember that they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.(Isaiah 40:31). Try to seek helpful and godly counsel as you move on in your career, ministry, business or any life endeavor. Prayerfully be led into all you desire to do.
The season of returning.
At some point, most people begin to tire of the pace of our earning season or may have a significant life challenging event or may simply begin to question whether or not there is something more to life.
When you reach this point beware that you are at a crossroads, a very dangerous one at that. Be careful not to take the wrong road at this point in life, people call it a mid-life crisis. Here, we are concerned with creating a legacy for the next generation, changes in life direction (career, business, and ministry) and personal goal achievement. Some people in order to recapture their youth result in other self-destructive ways; they end up ruining their families, friendships, careers and lives.
The season of reaping.
Those fortunate enough to master the season of returning get a bonus, the season of reaping. It is during this season, late in life, that one has the opportunity to see the results of many of their efforts through the successes of others they have helped along the way or in the success of initiatives they helped to start. It is a period of examination of the last stage of life, when people consider what they might still do to change or add to their lives. It is a season of continuous give back through teaching, mentoring, consulting, and coaching to the younger generation.
People who successfully navigate life’s four seasons are the people who leave a lasting legacy, not only in wealth left behind or in material things, but in the lives of others, and these are the only things that truly last.
As the men of Issachar understood their times ( I Chro. 12:32), we are supposed to understand the life season we are and to maximize the opportunities before us. If you have not taken full advantage of your life’ seasons, it is not too late, make full amendments, cry to Jesus , the Saviour for help and He will guide your footsteps aright.
